What should I bring to my audition?
We normally just ask you to turn in your performance CV with your relevant contact details and a headshot. If you are performing a monologue, we need you to turn in a copy of the monologue. If you are singing, you'll need to bring either 2 copies of your song's score sheet or a CD/flash drive containing the accompaniment to your song.
How long should my song be?
You should be able to sing at least 32 bars of your song. We advise you to learn the entire song, just in case we ask you to sing it in its entirety.
Can I read my monologue as I perform it?
No. Unless we ask you to do a cold reading for us, we expect you to perform a memorized monologue.
What can I do if I don't have a minus one for the song I'm singing?
If you want to sing with accompaniment but don't have a copy of the score sheet or the minus one, please notify us in advance if you need one to be provided for you.
Can I sing a capella?
Yes.
What kind of song should I sing for the audition?
Song requirements may vary by the type of show you're auditioning for. We expect you to be able to sing a song from the show you're auditioning for, sung by your prospective character. If you are unable to study a song from the show, you'll need to sing a song that belongs to the same era or genre.
What if I only want to do straight plays?
If you opt to do non-musical shows, please prepare at least a 2-minute monologue that will best showcase your abilities and that is appropriate for your age and experience. Also, be prepared to do a cold reading.
What is a cold reading?
A cold reading, also known as sight-reading, is a kind of reading wherein you read from a script you have never studied. An actor may be asked to "cold read" a monologue or a scene from a show they're auditioning for.
When will audition results be released? And how?
Audition results will be released within a few days to two weeks from your date of audition. We will contact successful auditionees either through a direct phone call or e-mail, and we will also be posting the results on the TDS Blog.
If ever I make it through the audition, what will rehearsal schedules be like?
Rehearsals are generally held in the evenings, but schedules will depend largely on the entire final cast's availability. When giving us your schedule, please make sure you include all previous commitments, holiday trips, and anything else that need to be taken into consideration.
