The classic Cinderella story is retold in its original setting in this musical about a young Chinese girl, a magical carp, a handsome emperor, a wicked stepmother and a very special golden shoe!
A Theater Down South original production, The Princess and the Red Carp was initially a 2010 Chinese New Year offering at The Podium. It has since been expanded to a full-length musical and included in the company's 2010 Season. It ran from August to September 2010 at the Insular Life Theater in Alabang. The show is currently available for purchase by schools, organizations, and individuals.
Kahna VelascoYeh Hsien
Kahna made her theatrical debut in Theater Down South’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (Peaseblossom/Tom Snout). This was followed by featured roles in “Rapunzel” (Rapunzel) and “Treasure Island” (Meg/Sam). She has also performed in several of the company's holiday shows such as “The Wacky Wizard’s Tea Party” (Violet) and the original form of “The Princess and the Red Carp” (Yeh Hsien). She reprised that role when "Red Carp" was expanded into a full length musical, and was most recently seen as Panacea in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum".
As a commercial model, she has appeared in TV commercials such as LBC's "Monolith" (Fish Vendor), Tide/Safeguard/Ariel's "Tippi Tipid Tips" (Tippi) and Allerta "Kamot" (Officemate). She has also done a spoof with GMA-7's Bitoy's Funniest Home Videos.
Sophia ReyesYeh Hsien
Having come from a long line of actresses - her mother being Rina Reyes, her grandmother being Baby O'Brien, and her great- grandmother being Paraluman-Sophia became exposed to the arts at a very young age. Her theater credits include "The Sound of Music", "The Great White Way", "Reminiscences", and "Once Upon a Mattress" with Repertory Philippines, and "Peter Pan" with Trumpets Playshop. She also has some experience with Sound Design, having recorded for McDonald’s and Del Monte. As a model, she has had campaigns with So En, Mojo, and Coconut Magazine.

Chino VeguillasThe Red Carp
Chino fell into theater by accident via a high school production of "South Pacific", where he played the part of Lt. Joe Cable. On the strength of his performance in this show, he was invited to join the cast of Repertory Philippines' "Yankee Pankee 98". In 2006, he returned to the theater as a member of De La Salle Zobel's Act 25 theater group, playing the roles of Judas "Godspell" , Papa Ge in "Once on this Island", the Jester in "Once Upon a Mattress", Kenickie in "Grease", Charlemagne in "Pippin", and Judas in "Jesus Christ Superstar", all but the first of these directed by Michael Williams. Along with Williams and some other DLSZ alumni, he became a founding member and Company Manager of Theater Down South, with whom he has appeared in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Puck), "Rapunzel" (Simon the Valet), "Treasure Island" (Long John Silver), "The Princess and the Red Carp" (Red Carp), "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" (Pseudolus), as well as several corporate shows. He recently appeared in the Philippine Opera Company's highly acclaimed production of "Master Class", as the stagehand. Chino is a Karate World Cup Silver Medalist and a SEA Games Gold Medalist. He was the Karatedo coach of the Philippine National Karatedo team for the 2005 SEA Games and is currently the Karatedo coach of De La Salle Zobel. He is also the manager of AAK Fitness System.
Celine FabieStepmother
Celine is a Communication Arts graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University and an alumna of the Ateneo College Glee Club. After college, she was briefly a writer for a public relations firm and an English tutor for grade school and high school students. In 2008, she started in theater taking on the lead role of grandmother in the restaging of Ang Mapaghimalang Birhen ng Caysasay. Under writer-director Nestor U. Torre, she continued to play Ballsy Aquino and other roles in Cory, The Musical and also played multiple lead roles in Nasaan Si Hesus? - both produced by Buhay Ay Isang Awit Foundation. Currently, she is part of the touring group of Magnificat, one of the country's longest running musicals, and is working on two of Torre's award-winning one-act plays.
Celine joined The Ryan Cayabyab Singers in early 2010 and has performed with them in numerous corporate shows and concerts such as Motown and Beyond at the Music Museum, Mr.C in Concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore, Ryan Cayabyab and Friends at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World, Manila, and a concert at the Luce Auditorium in Silliman University, which earned three standing ovations. The RCS also proudly supports Gawad Kalinga and can be seen regularly performing for the organization's events both here and abroad. They will be having a 3-week Australian tour in October 2011 and will be singing at the Gawad Kalinga Summit in Sydney in the same month.
Celine has been an active member of Theater Down South since 2009 and, under founding director Michael Williams, has played Mrs. Hawkins in Treasure Island: A Musical Adventure, Domina in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and the Evil Stepmother in The Princess and the Red Carp - a TDS original musical based on the Chinese origins of the Cinderella story. She also participates in all of the company's yearly holiday mall shows during Easter, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Chinese New Year. This year, she plays Hippolyta in the TDS school tour production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Marie DelgadoFirst Stepsister
Marie started performing on stage since she was 7 and has been in love with the stage ever since. She has been in workshop productions such as "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" as Judah; "Cats" as Carbucketty; "Aida" as Princess Amneris; "A Chorus Line" as Valerie Clark; "Once on this Island" as Asaka; "Footloose" as Rusty; "BEND(bare)" as Nadia and "PARIS 1832 (Les Mis)" as ensemble & Gavroche. She has appeared in productions such as "Cinderella", "Mulan", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "A Christmas Carol", and "Sleeping Beauty", all under Repertory Philippines. With Theater Down South, she appeared as the Stepsister in "The Princess and the Red Carp", as Peaseblossom in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream", and as Vibrata in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". Other credits: "Love Beyond Time", "Laura", and "A Christmas Soiree".
Joonee GarciaSecond Stepsister
Joonee is a BM Music Education graduate of the University of the Philippines (Major in Piano, Minor in Voice). She heads the Music department of Academy One Music and Dance Center in Paranaque, where she teaches Piano and Voice. She also specializes in Early Childhood Music Education and is a sought-after lecturer on this subject. Together with her business partner Geri Gil, she has co-authored Make Mine Music, a Music and Movement program for young children and their parents, for which they wrote and produced 6 CDs of original children's music. She is an Artist-in-Residence of the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School where she has served as Musical Director for their productions of "Godspell", "Once on this Island", "Once Upon a Mattress", "Grease", "Pippin" and, most recently, "Jesus Christ Superstar".
Joonee is a founding member of Theater Down South with whom she has performed in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Starveling/Snug/Mustardseed), "Rapunzel" (Witch), "The Princess and the Red Carp" (Stepsister), and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" (Geminae). She is also company's Musical Director and has written the book, music and lyrics for several TDS pocket shows, all of which were performed in various SM Malls during the Christmas and Easter seasons. She was also the writer and composer of "The Princess and the Red Carp", TDS' first original full-length musical.
Zig HagamannEmperor
Zig graduated from De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde with a degree in Music Production and is also an accomplished singer and pianist. In 2008, he joined the Spotlight Artist Workshop where he studied under seasoned stage veterans Robert Sena, Isay Alvarez and Nestor Torre. This led to a role in the musical "Cory", where he played a variety of roles. He gained further experience from the ABS-CBN Star Magic Acting Workshop before joining Theater Down South. With TDS, he has been seen in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" (Marcus Lycus), "Treasure Island" (Captain Smollett/Billy Bones), "The Princess and the Red Carp" (Emperor), "Santa at Sea"(Captain Cutlass), "Christmas at the North Pole" (Reindeer), and the TDS Christmas concerts.
Zig has also appeared in films, both independent and mainstream, such as "Dinig Sana Kita", "Balag", "In My Life" and "Emir".
Mikey LlorinPrime Minister
Mikey began his formal theater training in Ateneo de Manila University under Yan Yuzon and Ron Capinding. He played the lead role in "Linya" for Tanghalang Ateneo. In 2005, he played Jason in the Greek tragedy "Medea" and Cupcake in Cris Martinez's "Balang Araw" for Ron Capinding's Basic Acting course. He joined Theater Down South in 2007 and has since played Nick Bottom in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Storyteller/Innkeeper/Man-with-a-Mop/Castle Guard in "Rapunzel", Tom Morgan/Captain Smollett in "Treasure Island", the Prime Minister in "The Princess and the Red Carp", the Prime Minister in "The Emperor and the Magical Dragon Robe", and Miles Gloriosus in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". He has also appeared in most of the TDS Holiday shows.
Mikey is currently teaching Theater Arts for the International Baccalaureate Program at Southville International School and Colleges. He is also a freelance events host and acting talent.
Daryl ZarragaFirst Narrator
Daryl made his professional theatrical debut as Lysander in 2007 in TDS's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Theater and performance credits since: Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" as Jim O'Connor, "Rapunzel" as Prince Brian, Prince Street Players' "Treasure Island" as Jim Hawkins (also as Black Dog and Ensemble), Theater Down South's "The Princess and the Red Carp" as a Narrator (also as understudy for the Emperor and Red Carp), "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" as a Protean, Theater Down South's "The Gingerbread Man's Easter Eggscapade" as Blueberry, "Humbug" as Jacob Marley and Fezziwig, "Three Wise Men" as Town Crier and Joseph, "Christmas at the North Pole" as Prancer, "A Very Merry Wishmas Story" as the Elf, "The Emperor and the Magical Dragon Robe" as Narrator, and other holiday shows at the Enchanted Kingdom, Tribeca, and SM Mall of Asia. He was most recently seen as the March Hare in the TDS Easter production of "Alice in the Queen's Garden".
Apart from Acting, he freelances as a Graphic Designer. He also does Stage Management work. Kris KatalbasSecond Narrator
Upon the prodding of her mother, Kris attended an open audition advertised in their weekly AAVA news for new Theater Down South talents. She has since been seen in the company's Christmas and Easter shows and has also been tapped as a Junior Instructor for the TDS Summer Workshop. Theater Credits: "Treasure Island" (Meg/Sam), "The Princess and the Red Carp" (Narrator), "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Cobweb), "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" (Panacea).
By profession, Kris is Managing Partner of her own wedding coordination and styling company called Full Circle and previously worked in an advertising company.
Gary JunsayThird Narrator
A pediatrician by profession, Gary has always loved singing & performing on stage even at an early age. After finishing his internship at Makati Medical Center, he joined his first theater workshop & was invited to appear as a cast member of TRUMPETS' "Joseph the Dreamer". Since then, he has appeared in several concerts, corporate events, product launchings, mall shows & musical productions. For Valentine's Day 2009, he co-wrote, co-directed & co-starred in a musical revue called "Love in the Key of Caffeine". He has been fortunate enough to be trained by theater stalwarts, such as Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Freddie Santos, Monique Wilson, Roselyn Perez & Michael Williams. To maintain a healthy balance between a clinical practice and professional theater career is what he aims to achieve. He is proud and honored to be a part of the core group of THEATER DOWN SOUTH.

Rovip DacalosEnsemble
RV first appeared with Theater Down South in their production of "Treasure Island" where he played one of the pirates, then went on to be part of the production of "The Princess and the Red Carp". He is an Academy One ballet scholar and he has been training under Jeffrey Espejo since 2009. With Academy One, he has been performed in several shows, including their full length "Nutcracker".
Alejandro RiveraEnsemble
Ale is a TDS Workshop Graduate from 2008 where he was seen in "Even Stephens", a Stephen Sondheim/Stephen Schwartz musical revue. He first worked with Michael Williams, and by extension Theater Down South, when he was still in high school. He essayed the roles of Tonton Julian in "Once On this Island" and the Minstrel in "Once Upon a Mattress". As a returning alumni, he was also seen in the DLSZ productions of "Pippin" (chorus member) and "Jesus Christ Superstar" (Simon Zealot). He has since become a TDS company member, appearing in "Mega Monster Mania: Halloween Monster Mission", "The Princess and the Red Carp", "The Emperor and the Magical Dragon Robe" and, most recently, "The Princess Hunt".
Aside from theater, Ale is an accomplished violinist who has played with the DLSZ Orchestra (for which he became concertmaster in 2007) and the PREDIS Youth Orchestra under Arturo Molina. He joined the Executive Band as a jazz violinist in 2009 and has also been a featured soloist on Jun Penaverde's CD entitled "Sacred". He is also in his second year taking up Photography at the DLSU College Of St. Benilde and is training to become a commercial pilot.
Dave CorpinEnsemble
Dave made his theatrical debut as the little boy Benny in De La Salle Zobel's production of "Tolda" in 1993, and went on to be part of the school's other productions: "Oliver" (Chorus), "The Sound of Music" (Chorus), and "Fiddler on the Roof" (Mendel). He then joined the Company of Ateneo Dancers, where he trained & performed Streetdance and Jazz. He was also featured in the independent films "Banlaw" and "Bulong sa Kawalan" as well as a music video for BukasPalad. In 2004, he returned to the DLSZ stage to be part of ACT25's Alumni production, and then became part of the company's productions of "Godspell", "Once on this Island" (Agwe), "Once Upon a Mattress" (Jester), "Grease" (Doody), "Pippin" (Lead Player), and "Jesus Christ Superstar (Peter). With Theater Down South, he has been seen in the company's season shows -- "The Princess and the Red Carp" (Chorus), "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" (Starvelling/Snout), and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" (Protean) -- as well as its holiday shows -- "Humbug" (Bob Cratchit), "The Emperor and Magic Dragon Robe" (Zheng), "The Princess Hunt" and the "Rabbit Riders" Series (Long Ears).
Dave is an award-winning Media Professional with his works notably recognized both locally and regionally through the 2009 Media Thinking Awards, 2010 Asian Marketing Effectiveness Awards and the 2010 TANAW Awards (by the Outdoor Advertising Association of the Philippines). He is currently the Marketing Manager for Media of Globe Telecom.
Belle ArguellesEnsemble
Belle started formal dance lessons in classical ballet and musical theatre as a child, and soon began competing and performing for various events, receiving numerous awards along the way. De La Salle Zobel's ACT25 production of "Once Upon a Mattress" marked her musical theatre debut, where she trained under Michael Williams. She has since been seen in their productions of "Grease" (Cha Cha Di Gregorio), "Pippin", and "Jesus Christ Superstar". She made her debut with Theater Down South as Tintinabula in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", and has since appeared with TDS in "The Princess and the Red Carp", "Mega Monster Mania: Halloween Monster Mission", and "The Emperor and the Magic Dragon Robe". She's set to play Peaseblossom in the 2011 School Tour production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Kathy LindainEnsemble
Kathy started ballet under Jeanette Racillo when she was twelve years old, and then later on took ballet lessons under Nina Anonas, Sol Fernandez and Cherish Garcia. She participated in the 1992 and 1994 RAD Dance Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and appeared in the movie 'Mila' which starred Maricel Soriano. After her cousin brought her to watch Repertory Philippines' production of "Sleeping Beauty" she was bitten by the theater bug. Thereafter, she took acting workshops under Jaime Blanch and more recently with New Voice Company. She has always wanted to be a part of the theater industry but fate had other plans, and brought her to the travel industry instead. Theater Credits include "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Helena), "Treasure Island" (George Merry), and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" (Geminae).

For schools that would like to put up their own show, Theater Down South provides a comprehensive set of services to guide them every step of the way. From getting the rights to opening night, TDS has it covered. Clients can choose from individual creative services (Directorial, Stage Management, Choreography) to a full complement (Artistic and Production teams).
TDS's first official show under the Theater Delivery Service banner was "Jesus Christ Superstar", which ran during the first week of March 2011.
